How this comparison was made
Every detail about another provider below comes from that provider's public documentation or pricing page, checked on 1 November 2026, and is linked so you can verify it. Prices and limits change often, so confirm them before deciding. The table does not rank cutout quality, because quality depends on your images: run the same test set through each API you are considering.

Notes on each provider
Leonardo.Ai is where remove.bg's API moves on 1 December 2026. Its Sync API supports remove.bg's options, including car and 3D shadows, but not ZIP output, format=auto, or raw image responses.
Photoroom documents that its Remove Background API accepts remove.bg-style requests at its own endpoint. Its Plus plan adds AI backgrounds, AI shadows, and other editing features.
Clipdrop's documentation notes that Clipdrop is now part of Jasper and directs users to Jasper for current models and credits. Its remove background API allows 60 requests per minute by default.
Cutout Lab keeps remove.bg's endpoint path and response format, including ZIP output and X-Credits-Charged headers. It supports drop shadows but not car or 3D shadows, accepts input up to 12 MB and 12 megapixels, and does not detect foreground type. It is a newer, smaller service than the others listed here.
Choosing
Pick based on what your pipeline needs: features such as car shadows or generative backgrounds, how much code you can change before 1 December, your monthly volume, and how each API handles your own difficult images.
